WHAT TO WATCH FOR: Arrowhead Doubleheader Brings World of Outlaws Back to Oklahoma

The eight-year wait is over – the World of Outlaws Real American Beer Late Model Series presented by DIRTVision is set to invade Oklahoma for the first time since 2017.

The state-of-the-art Arrowhead Speedway in Colcord, OK has hosted several major touring series since its renovation in 2023, but this weekend’s Sooner State Showdown will be the first national Late Model event in track history.

Two nights of World of Outlaws competition are on tap, beginning with a 40-lap, $12,000-to-win, program on Friday, Aug. 22, ahead of the 60-lap, $20,000-to-win, finale on Saturday, Aug. 23. Both nights will be co-sanctioned with the COMP Cams Super Dirt Series, which will also contest their own standalone program on Thursday, Aug. 21.

The local B-Mod division will join the Late Models all weekend long.

Here are the top storylines entering the weekend:

UNCHARTED TERRITORY: Only four Super Late Model races have been held on the current version of Arrowhead, meaning the vast majority of the World of Outlaws roster will be competing the facility for the first time.

The most notable exception is Ethan Dotson, who isn’t just the only one with laps around Arrowhead in a Late Model – he’s a former winner at Colcord. Two years ago, Dotson piloted the Chris Bragg Racing No. 174 to a COMP Cams victory, leading every lap in the process.

Jake Timm is also no stranger to Arrowhead, but all of his laps came behind the wheel of a Modified. In four United States Modified Touring Series starts, Timm finished second three times along with a seventh in 2024.

While Ryan Gustin has never seen the track in its current state, he won a MARS Late Model Championship event in 2013 on the red dirt surface of what was then known as West Siloam Springs Speedway.

NEXT IN LINE: Tanner English’s victory at Highland Speedway last week made him the 14th different driver to win a World of Outlaws race in 2025 and the eighth full-timer in the win column. That leaves six more Outlaws waiting to join the list in the closing months of the season.

Leading that charge is Dennis Erb Jr., whose six podiums are more than anyone on tour without a win to their name this year. Thanks to his trio of top 10s last week, Erb has climbed into the top five in points and sits 14 points clear of Drake Troutman entering his Arrowhead debut.

Cody Overton finished last week’s slate on a high note with a fourth-place run at Maquoketa, his first top five since Norman County Raceway on June 28. The World of Outlaws sophomore finds himself ninth in points with his performance on the rise – after scoring only seven top 10s in the first 25 nights of the season, Overton has amassed five of them in the last seven races.

Dustin Sorensen proved he’s capable of being a serious contender at Highland, as he made multiple bids for the lead before crossing the line third for his second podium of the year. He’ll need to keep the pedal down the rest of the way to claim a spot in the top 10, with 104 points to make up to Dotson in 10th.

Behind them, Jake Timm, Tristan Chamberlain and Brent Larson all have 13 more opportunities this year to pull off the upset and pull into World of Outlaws Victory Lane for the first time.

HISTORY IN THE MAKING: The past two and a half years have been nothing short of a dream for Bobby Pierce, and he has no plans to wake up anytime soon.

The “Smooth Operator” picked up his eighth and ninth World of Outlaws wins of the season at Spoon River and Maquoketa, which means he only needs one more to reach double digits for the third year in a row. Pierce is on pace to make 2025 his best season yet with the Series, as his 5.25 average finish is lower than the 5.32 average that won him the title in 2023 or his 5.76 mean from a year ago.

Across the board, Pierce has won 26 of the 69 Late Model races he has entered in 2025 for a 37% win percentage, right in line with his previous two figures of 36% from 2023 and 37% in 2024. Most dirt racers can only imagine what it’s like to win 30 races in one season at any level, but Pierce is on his way to doing it three years in a row at the pinnacle of the sport.

SCOUTING THE LOCALS: The World of Outlaws won’t be the only ones with points on their mind this weekend, as the race is on for the COMP Cams title among the top Late Model racers in the Mid-South region.

Three-time World of Outlaws champion Billy Moyer is looking to add a COMP Cams championship to his endless list of accomplishments in his first season racing full-time with the Series. The history books suggest Arrowhead could be an opportunity for Moyer to grow his 160-point lead over Morgan Bagley, as he has finishes of second and fourth in his two starts at the track, while Bagley has one top five in four starts.

Trailing those two is BJ Robinson, the lone COMP Cams regular with an Arrowhead victory on his resume from 2024, as well as Timothy Culp, who turned heads at the Dirt Late Model Dream by earning the pole for his preliminary Feature and bringing home a top five to lock into the Saturday main event.
